The Student Counselling and Accessibility Services Department invites applications for the position of Accessibility Services Specialist.

Responsibilities

Your Commitment

 

Reporting to the Head, Accessibility Services, the successful candidate will assess needs for students with special abilities; determine and provide appropriate services, materials and accommodations.

 

Duties & Responsibilities 

 

The successful candidate will:

 

  • Maintain a coaching caseload of registered students by advising and counseling, including organization/study skills, advocacy, family contact, record-keeping, and referrals needed for academic success.
  • Review documentation for the purposes of determining appropriate, reasonable accommodations; conduct intake meetings, assist in coordinating accommodations between the faculty, student, and the Business Unit including helping with the Testing Center and assistive technology demands.
  • Support incoming and newly admitted students’ accessibility concerns through interventions as possible.
  • Coordinate and assist with the collection, analysis, verification, documentation, and authorization of academic accommodations.
  • Assist with the creation and distribution of accommodation notices, advising students and faculty of approved accommodation.
  • Facilitate access to support services, including test accommodations, note-takers, tutors, adaptive equipment, assistive technology, test proctoring, and related services for students with special abilities.
  • Conduct intake, verify and assess students' medical or neuropsychological documentation of disability.
  • Generate accommodation letters documenting students' approved course related accommodations.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to implement academic and testing accommodations for students with special abilities.
  • Consult with faculty on individual student cases and provide professional development regarding supporting students with documented special abilities in order to enhance student success.

 

Qualifications

Education and Certifications:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field is required

 

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience is required

 

Language:

Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic language is required
