The Student Central Services Department is inviting nominations and applications for the position of Head, Student Advising. Reporting to the Manager, Student Central Services, the incumbent will need to oversee the development and implementation of student advising programs, providing ongoing leadership using an exhaustive developmental advising structure based on a dynamic student/advisor relationship to help students achieve their academic and career goals.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will need to develop and implement student advising programs in line with the university’s mission and goals, and that meet the needs of a diverse student population. She/he will provide leadership to Student Advising and Student Success Specialists, ensuring they have the necessary skills to perform their jobs effectively. The ideal candidate will need to manage the department’s resources, such as technology, equipment, and staffing levels, to ensure a smooth operation of the department. She/he will be required to provide professional development and review performance for direct subordinates in line with UDST’s Employee Performance Management framework and take appropriate measures on cases of poor performance.

The ideal candidate will need to monitor student success rates and implement proactive student success strategies to ensure students receive the necessary guidance and support to succeed academically. She/he will play a major role in leading the development of academic success plans with identified at-risk students and with early alert intervention strategies. The incumbent will play a pivotal role in collaborating with the Career Services and academic learning services team to develop a robust advising system that helps students make appropriate choices regarding their academic and professional pathways. The ideal candidate will need to keep abreast of best practices in student success and advising and leverage this information to continually enhance student success programs at the University.

 

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field is required

Master’s degree in special education or relevant field is required

Experience:

Minimum 7 years of experience in relevant field is required

 

Languages:

Fluency in written and spoken English language is required

Fluency in written and spoken Arabic language is preferred
