The Student Central Services Department invites applications for the position of Academic Learning Support Specialist.

 

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head, Academic Learning Services, the successful candidate will develop tutoring and learning support programs to meet the learning and academic success needs in alignment with UDST’s overall objectives. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, developing, monitoring, and evaluating the overall operations and staff of the programs.

 

The successful candidate will:

 

  1. Manage the operations of the Writing Center to ensure all students receive quality-driven writing support services.
  2. Liaise with subject matter experts to align writing services to the needs of the institution’s programs.
  3. Offer one-on-one dedicated writing services to students with complex and/or advanced writing needs.
  4. Facilitate workshops related to writing concepts, study skills, and learning techniques.
  5. Develop and monitor tutoring programs to support the students in improving their grades and academic projects.
  6. Develop innovative approaches for tutoring and learning support programs to enhance the students’ knowledge, skills, and learning methods.
  7. Develop success metrics to forecast tutoring and mentorship needs and analyze data on tutoring effectiveness and utilization.
  8. Monitor student data for the programs including (not limited to) student attendance, tutor attendance, test scores, etc.
  9. Manage UDST activities and academic support initiatives such as the peer tutoring program, help centers and student success workshops to contribute towards student academic achievement.
  10. In collaboration with the relevant instructors, identify student academic skills development through interviews, assessments of academic strengths and deficits, test-taking skills to ensure enhance academic skills development.
  11. Participate in coordinating with qualified students, instructors, deans, and external post-secondary institutions / higher education institutions to recruit potential tutors and mentors.
  12. Support in evaluating tutoring and mentorship programs and utilize the findings in ensuring positive outcomes for the services.
  13. Develop marketing strategies to promote student success programs to UDST students.
  14. Develop marketing strategies to attract, recruit and retain suitable qualified tutors and mentors.
  15. Liaise with tutors, mentors, and instructors, in conducting periodic reviews of the student success programs and maintain outcome assessment records and reports.
  16. Develop and maintain tutoring and mentorship schedule of activities, instruction sessions and academic workshops.
  17. Ability to work with a student success management system to facilitate daily operations and accurate data tracking.
  18. Maintain outcome assessment records and reports.

Qualifications

Education and Certifications:

 

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, English Literature, Rhetoric & Composition, or associated fields is required

 

Experience:

 

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in related field.

 

Language:

 

Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic language is required

 

Other Required Skills

 

Highly detail-oriented individual with a proactive can-do attitude to work is essential. A commitment to positive relationship building and effective working relationships across all levels of the organizations is required. Candidates should demonstrate explanatory communication and interpersonal skills.
